Midterm Week

Thursday:  10 Steps Test - Implied Main Ideas
Friday:  Proficiency Test
Monday:  Bees Quiz on pages 135 - 231 (books ONLY)

Implied Main Idea

The students made the teacher's job a lot easier yesterday, but not in a way she liked.  First, 5 students failed to do the reading - either they didn't read the book and based their homework on the movie, or they copied from someone who did.  Either way, they all got zeroes.  Next two students did a reasonable job with the assignment; however, their papers were exactly the same.  The teacher imagined that one of the students did the work, but she didn't know which one.  As a result, they both got zeroes.  Next, a really good paper looked too good for a level 5 student, even with a tutor's help.  In fact, this paper had many sentences copied from a website, so it was no surprise the grammar was perfect.  Another zero.  Finally, three students didn't do the work at all, so she didn't have to grade their papers.  3 more zeroes!  Now the teacher wonders how many times she has been fooled before.  Although the cheating students are the losers - they pay money to learn and then work hard not to - she also feels like a loser.

  • What is the topic?
  • What is/are the implied main ideas?

Homework for Monday, May 7

Due to the large number of assignments that were based on the movie rather than the book and/or were copied, there is no homework for Monday.  Work like this wastes my time and yours.  Instead you will be quizzed on the material.  You will base your answers on YOUR reading and analysis alone.  Only the book will be available to you in the next quiz, which will be Monday, May 7 and include the material from pages 136 - 231.  Andy, Candice and Echo should still send me 5 vocabulary words and 3 questions next Sunday night.  I will quiz you on the vocabulary and perhaps use their questions on the quiz.  What we do the rest of the quarter depends on how you all do next week.
